Beet Root, Nitric Oxide and Blood Flow: What the IronPulseX Botanicals Can and Can't Do
Quick answerBeet root is rich in dietary nitrate, which the body turns into nitric oxide, a molecule that relaxes blood vessels. In trials, about 250 mL of beetroot juice a day lowered blood pressure by 7.7/2.4 mmHg over 4 weeks. IronPulseX includes beet root and grape seed extract, but amounts are not published, and no supplement can treat ED.

What is nitric oxide and why does it matter for blood flow?
Nitric oxide is a tiny gas molecule that tells blood vessels to relax. When the muscle in a vessel wall loosens, the vessel widens and blood moves through more easily. That is why nitric oxide comes up so often in talk about circulation.
The body makes nitric oxide in two main ways. The lining of blood vessels makes it from an amino acid. The body can also build it from nitrate in food, and that second route is where beet root comes in (Lundberg et al., 2008).
Erections also depend on blood vessels relaxing and filling. So healthy vessels matter for sexual health as much as for the heart.
How does beet root turn into nitric oxide?

Beet root is one of the richest food sources of nitrate. Nitrate itself does little. The body has to convert it in steps (Lundberg et al., 2008).
You eat nitrate
Beet root, beet juice and leafy greens all supply it.
Mouth bacteria act on it
Nitrate is recycled into saliva, where bacteria on the tongue turn it into nitrite.
Nitrite becomes nitric oxide
In the body, especially where oxygen is low, nitrite is turned into nitric oxide.
Vessels relax
Nitric oxide signals the vessel wall to loosen, and blood pressure can dip a little.
What do beet root studies show?
Beet root studies mostly measure blood pressure, because it is a clear sign that vessels have relaxed. The results are real but modest.
A review of 16 trials
Across 16 short trials, nitrate or beetroot juice lowered systolic blood pressure by about 4.4 mmHg. Higher nitrate doses did more (Siervo et al., 2013).
A 4-week trial in high blood pressure
In 68 adults with high blood pressure, 250 mL of beetroot juice a day for 4 weeks lowered clinic readings by 7.7/2.4 mmHg (Kapil et al., 2015). That is a full glass of juice every day, not a pinch of powder.
What the trials did not measure
These trials looked at blood pressure. They did not test erections, stamina or sexual function. A drop in blood pressure is a sign of vessel effects, not proof of any effect on performance.
Where does grape seed extract fit?

Grape seed extract is a source of proanthocyanidins, a type of plant polyphenol. Its research also centers on blood pressure, and the effects are small.
Across 9 trials, grape seed extract lowered systolic pressure by 1.5 mmHg and slowed heart rate slightly (Feringa et al., 2011). In a 16-week trial of 80 adults with mildly high readings, 300 mg a day lowered blood pressure in men but not in the group overall (Schön et al., 2021).
So grape seed extract plays a supporting role. It is a gentle nudge, not a strong effect.
Beet root and five more botanicals, in one gummy

What about horny goat weed and PDE-5?
Horny goat weed (Epimedium) is the third blood-flow botanical in IronPulseX. Its compound icariin mildly blocks the PDE-5 enzyme in lab tests (MSKCC, Epimedium). PDE-5 is the enzyme that prescription ED drugs block.
That lab finding has not been confirmed in people. There is a lack of human research to support sexual-health claims (OPSS, Horny Goat Weed), and no human-tested dose exists. Products on the market usually hold 250-500 mg (NIH LiverTox, Horny Goat Weed).
Two cautions follow. Case reports describe fast heart rhythms, so men with heart disease should be careful (MSKCC, Epimedium). And some products sold with horny goat weed have been found to contain hidden sildenafil or tadalafil (OPSS, Horny Goat Weed). Our guide to spotting risky male enhancement supplements explains how to protect yourself.
How do the three blood-flow botanicals in IronPulseX compare?
The three botanicals share a theme, blood vessels, but the evidence behind each is very different.
| Botanical | How it may act | Human evidence | Studied dose | Amount in IronPulseX |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beet Root | Nitrate becomes nitric oxide, which relaxes vessels | Blood pressure down in several trials | About 250 mL juice a day (Kapil et al., 2015) | Not published |
| Grape Seed Extract | Polyphenols support vessel lining | Small blood pressure drop in some groups | About 300 mg a day (Schön et al., 2021) | Not published |
| Horny Goat Weed | Icariin mildly blocks PDE-5 in the lab | Thin; no human-tested dose | Products use 250-500 mg (NIH LiverTox, Horny Goat Weed) | Not published |
What can these botanicals not do?
These botanicals cannot treat erectile dysfunction. ED is a medical condition, and a dietary supplement is not a medicine for it.
The IronPulseX sales page says the formula "Supports healthy blood flow & circulation for firmer performance." Read plainly, that line refers to ingredients like beet root, a source of dietary nitrate linked to blood-vessel function. The studies above show modest blood pressure effects. None tested IronPulseX, and none measured erections.
Why lasting ED needs a doctor
Erection problems can be an early warning sign of heart disease. In 92,757 men, ED was linked to a 44% higher risk of cardiovascular events (Vlachopoulos et al., 2013). Common causes include hardened arteries, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke (NIDDK, causes of ED). A checkup can catch these while they are easier to manage.
IronPulseX is made to support daily vitality, drive and a healthy stress response. It sits beside good habits and medical care, not in place of them. The how it works page explains the formula's approach.
Who should check with a doctor first?
Most healthy adults tolerate beet root and grape seed well in food amounts. A few groups should get medical advice before adding them as a supplement.
Blood pressure and nitrates
Beet root and grape seed may lower blood pressure a little (Siervo et al., 2013) (Feringa et al., 2011). If you take blood pressure pills, that can add to their effect. If you take nitrate heart drugs, such as nitroglycerin, talk to your doctor before using any product in this category.
Men with heart rhythm problems should also ask before taking horny goat weed. See the side effects page for the full formula's safety notes.
How can food and habits support nitric oxide?
Food and movement are the everyday way to support nitric oxide. They also bring benefits no supplement can match.
Eat nitrate-rich vegetables
Beets, spinach, arugula, lettuce and celery are all good sources.
Stay active
Regular exercise helps the vessel lining make its own nitric oxide.
Watch salt and alcohol
Both push blood pressure up. Cutting back helps your vessels.
Do not smoke
Smoking damages the vessel lining and cuts nitric oxide.
Our male vitality guide puts these habits in order. For the stress side of the formula, read Tongkat Ali and ashwagandha explained. The ingredients page lists all six botanicals.
Beet root and blood flow FAQ
What is nitric oxide?
Nitric oxide is a small molecule made in the body. It signals the muscle in blood vessel walls to relax, which widens the vessel and lets blood flow more easily.
How does beet root raise nitric oxide?
Beet root contains nitrate. The body turns nitrate into nitrite and then into nitric oxide, a pathway described in detail by Lundberg and colleagues in 2008.
How much beetroot juice was used in studies?
A 4-week trial in adults with high blood pressure used 250 mL of beetroot juice a day. A review of 16 short trials found a drop of about 4.4 mmHg in systolic pressure.
Does grape seed extract lower blood pressure?
A little, in some people. Across 9 trials it lowered systolic pressure by 1.5 mmHg. A 16-week trial at 300 mg a day saw a drop in men but not in the group overall.
Is horny goat weed a natural Viagra?
No. Its compound icariin only mildly blocks the PDE-5 enzyme in lab tests, and human data are thin. Some products sold with it have contained hidden prescription drugs.
Can IronPulseX replace ED medicine?
No. IronPulseX is a dietary supplement, and ED is a medical condition. Talk to a doctor about erection problems, especially since they can be an early sign of heart disease.
Is IronPulseX safe with blood pressure pills?
Ask your doctor first. Beet root and grape seed may lower blood pressure a little, which can add to the effect of your medicine.
